‘The New Lace Age’ was created in response to the 2025 ISTD brief ‘Milestones’. It explores the digitalisation of lace making and how it shifted from a slow, handmade craft to an automated, and coded process. The project reflects on the invention of the Leavers Lace machine by John Leavers and is heavily inspired by it’s use of Jacquard punchcards.
